This collection includes original research materials and writing produced and collected by Clarito "Bing" Aradanas in the 1990s and 2000s. Included are digital and physical materials related to the Aradanas family, Lompoc's Filipino American histories and communities from the early to mid 20th century, and Bing's independent research projects. Most of these materials cover Bing's Philippine-American studies over 30 years--topics such as the manong generation, indigenous Filipino ways of life, community preservation in the central coast, and articles analyzing American imperialism. These materials are made up of papers, event programs and pamphlets, photocopied news paper articles, news clippings and spreads, and audio-visual material such as VHS tapes and CDs.

Biographical / Historical

Clarito "Bing" Aradanas is a scholar of Filipino American history. Bing was born in Lompoc, CA in 1960, the second son to Pedro Duadua Aradanas and Angeles "Lily" Maquiling Trinidad Aradanas. Bing has worked as an adjunct professor for the ethnic studies department at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, CA since 2013. His work focuses on the history of early Filipino migrant laborers, commonly referred to as the 'manong generation,' to honor and educate the public about the experiences and labor of his father and uncles. His materials also relate to research on inidgenous Filipino spirituality. Bing has participated in research and art projects that protect the legacy of manongs in Central California, specifically in Pismo Beach, CA and Lompoc, CA. Bing also has extensive experience as a human and environmental rights activist.
