Scope and Contents

This album contains photographs from the late 1800s of the families of William Freeman Myrick Goss and Hannah Elizabeth Chapman Marcy. The earliest photograph is dated 1872, but several tintypes or daguerrotypes may have been taken earlier. Last names of people included in the album are (in order of appearance): Gaston, Marcy, Atkinson, Burgess, Ingham, Sawyer, Clink, Chapman, Goss, Barlow, Cooper, Scudder, Clark, Pratt, and Atkins.

Abstract The Vivian M. Obern Papers cover efforts made during the 1976 American Bicentennial by organizers and participants to recreate the expedition by Juan Bautista de Anza and his party of 240 settlers from northern Mexico to northern California two hundred years ealier in 1776. The collection also contains documents regarding the efforts of the Santa Barbara County Trails Council to establish and maintain recreational trails throughout the county.
