Scope and Contents
This album contains photographs from the late 1800s of the families of William Freeman Myrick Goss and Hannah Elizabeth Chapman Marcy. The earliest photograph is dated 1872, but several tintypes or daguerrotypes may have been taken earlier. Obern Papers cover efforts made during the 1976 American Bicentennial by organizers and participants to recreate the expedition by Juan Bautista de Anza and his party of 240 settlers from northern Mexico to northern California two hundred years ealier in 1776.
