Pablo de la Portilla Journal
Handwritten pages dated June 27, 1824 from a journal created by Captain Don Pablo de la Portilla, describing an expedition that left the Santa Barbara Presidio on June 4, 1824 to find and return neophyte Indians who had left Mission Santa Barbara earlier that year.
Den, Bell, and Luton Families Papers
The papers of the Den, Bell, and Luton Families are focused largely on land ownership by brothers Nicholas and Richard Den, early settlers of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and their heirs. They highlight the transition in land tenure during the Mexican period and early years of California statehood as well as the inner operations of land and oil development in Santa Barbara County during the first part of the twentieth century.
Dewey (William) Photograph Collection
Fifteen boxes of photographic prints and negatives from the 1980s and 1990s of SBTHP events and people created and donated by local photographer William (Bill) Dewey.
Walter Douglas Portrait and Oral History Collection
The collection consists of portraits and prints of Santa Barbara citizens who have been active and influential in the work of preserving Santa Barbara's history. They were photographed by Walter Douglas in his home studio between 1996 and 2002. The collection also consists of corresponding oral history interviews with the portrait subjects.
Harry Downie Scrapbook
This scrapbook contains news clippings and copies of newspaper articles, typed and handwritten notes, brochures, articles, and photographs about the history of the Santa Barbara Presidio and the reconstruction of the Presidio in the 1970s.
Early California Lantern Slides
The Early California Lantern Slides are comprised of 89 glass lantern slides made between 1900 and 1930. The images are primarily of California Missions, but also include other regional subjects such as the California Aqueduct.

Pedro Fages Calvary Inspection Report
Pedro Fages (1734–1794) was a Spanish soldier, explorer, and first Lieutenant Governor of the Californias under Gaspar de Portolá. He was the fifth Spanish Governor of Alta California (1782–91) when he wrote the inspection report contained in this holding. The manuscript details the cavalry at the Santa Barbara Presidio, including evaluation of soldiers, equipment, and supplies.
