Scope and Contents
This sub-group contains records related to SBTHP's acquisition of property for El Presidio State Historic Park, as well as additional acquisitions in the Presidio neighborhood. The sub-group is made up of a growing list of series, as new records for Trust-owned buildings are added to the archives.
Series 1 Acquisition and Development: These records deal with agreements between the City and County of Santa Barbara and the SBTHP for land acquisition for the rebuilding of the Santa Barbara Presidio. Record types include feasability studies and reports, correspondence, state and federal funding for reconstruction, comprehensive plans to rebuild the Presidio and to run the future state park, title searches, and various traffic studies.
Series 2 Presidio Park Properties: This large series contains records of the reconstruction of the Presidio, building by building. Types of materials include archaeology, correspondence, contractual work records, construction files, materials files, and consultants' reports. Associated architectural drawings and blueprints are located in the Research Center flat files.
Series 3 Deeds: Folders exist for each property that SBTHP owns. There are related files in several Trust offices as well as the Archives.
Series 4 Tenants and Leases: Contracts for tenants who have rented various SBTHP-owned properties in the Presidio neighborhood, including El Paseo. Arranged alphabetically by tenant.
Series 5 El Paseo: These records include property management, renovation and construction files, rentals and leases, sale, and title transfers from the time SBTHP acquired El Paseo in 1971 to the time it no longer owned the property in 1988. Tenants records for the various shops as well as records related to Restaurante El Paseo are included. It also includes the conservation easement files, which SBTHP still oversees.
