Biography

James G. Mills and his wife, Alicia Maria de la Vega, lived in Solvang. Mr. Mills holds a Doctorate in Pharmarcy from USC was associated with Thrifty Drug Company.



Long involved with conservation, wildlife and outdoor activities, he served as President of the Santa Barbara Audubon Society, chaired Santa Barbara Citizens for Wilderness, participated in the establishment of the original San Rafael Wilderness Area and the addition of the Dick Smith Wilderness. Dr. Mills was active in early efforts toward the establishment of the Channel Islands National Park. Dr. Mills served on the La Purisima Mission Citizens Advisory Committee and the County Riding and Hiking Trails Advisory Committee.



An avid student of the Spanish colonization era in California, he was 1st Vice President and Chairman of of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation's Reconstruction Committee.



James G. Mills wrote a dozen articles for La Campana from to 2011. A “Tribute to James (Jim) Gilmore Mills, 1926-2017” was published in the Winter 2018 issue of La Campana.
