California Private Land Claims Collection
The California Private Land Claims Collection is made up of copies of a selection of California private land claims presented to the Public Land Commission (1852-1856) to determine the validity of prior Spanish and Mexican land grants within California. The contents include handwritten transcripts of proceedings and maps.
The provenance of the materials may be revealed during processing. Possible sources of the copies may be found in Beers, "Spanish & Mexican records of the American Southwest."
