Francisco de la Guerra, son of Don Jose de la Guerra y Noriega, presided as the first mayor of Santa Barbara, California, when the Common Council first convened on August 26, 1850.

Three archives boxes containing thirty years of weekly local history columns written by Mrs. Rouse for the Santa Barbara News-Press newspaper, approximately 1,500 articles. A fourth archives box contains indexes to the columns, autobiographical notes, a selection of columns on the Riviera district where Mrs. Rouse lived, and working notes and drafts of columns.
